Mission Statement
The purpose of the BYU Independent Study Virtual Writing Lab is to help university level students become better writers by helping them learn and apply transferable writing skills.
BYU Independent Study provides an online, collaborative learning environment that allows students to engage with trained tutors and discuss their writing. Students using this resource may receive help at any stage of the writing process, whether they are brainstorming, drafting, or revising.
Meet Our Tutors
In the Virtual Writing Lab, students will find that all of our tutors are top achievers in their undergraduate or graduate programs at Brigham Young University. While our tutors’ interests, specialties, and academic pursuits vary, most of them major in fields like English, English Teaching, Editing, ELANG, and more!
Our tutors are trained and certified in the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) curriculum and are reviewed based on their performance twice a year. They also collaborate with BYU Independent Study and BYU Online course instructors in order to meet students’ needs better.
Above all else, our tutors are passionate about student learning and success. And they are especially excited to work with you!
